About Ebico
EquiClimate is one branch of the unique not-for-profit, energy-related business network run by Ebico.
Ebico’s ethos
All Ebico’s initiatives are based on the principle of harnessing existing market forces. We use the purchasing power of all customers to benefit those on the lowest incomes and to protect natural resources.
Where usually the marketplace benefits the wealthy, providing the best deals to those who will spend and can afford most, business Ebico-style works to bring about an increase in social justice and a wiser use of the earth’s resources.
The company was founded ten years ago with the initial vision of relieving UK fuel poverty through an alternative approach to costing and selling energy.
The need for such an initiative had become apparent to the company’s directors through the liberalisation of the energy market. An open market and profit-making approach meant new energy companies were offering the best deals to those who could spend most, in effect penalising those on the lowest incomes.
Ebico’s initial product, EquiGas, charges a fair, flat rate that can literally halve the bills of those on low incomes. EquiPower was launched soon after to provide electricity on the same fair-trade basis.
Ebico’s guiding principles are:
- to seek out ways to support those most disadvantaged by dominant market trends
- to redress the bias towards profit in the energy market by offering viable alternatives that are equitable and fair
- to initiate and practise wise stewardship of resources.
These principles are motivated by and based on the Christian gospel.

Use less energy – and notice the savings
You’ll not only get a cheap, fair rate for your gas and electricity with EquiClimate’s fellow brands EquiGas and EquiPower, but also increase your personal incentive to use less energy.
EquiGas and EquiPower both charge a single, flat rate to all their customers, regardless of how much energy they use or how they choose to pay. In addition, there’s no fixed service charge.
So why should that encourage you to use less energy? Most energy supply companies charge their lowest rates to the customers who buy most, and who pay online or by direct debit – which is most convenient for the company. A fixed service charge is also usual, which means customers pay the highest charges for their first few kWh each quarter.
This not only means that those who can afford least are those paying at the highest rate – which is clearly unfair. It also means consumers have little reason to carefully restrict their energy usage, as they benefit in effect from ‘buying in bulk’.
But with EquiGas and EquiPower, because everybody is charged exactly the same rates regardless of how much they pay, and there’s no standing charge, the less you use, the less you pay.
It really is that simple – cut your usage by 10 per cent, save 10 per cent off your bill, and benefit from reducing your impact on the environment.
